Due to the fact that I can´t keep my mouth shut we have hade a sailing competition today against Bodo. We started about 2nm from Sipnata where we have lived now for four days and had a truly wonderful time. I have seldom met so nice people that I have met in Croatia.
We had upwind all the way to the start so Bodo was nice and towed us to the starting line. It´s so typical for the us that we don´t want to use the battery for the Torqeedo if we don´t have to. Sailing was not an option anyway because we had to pass a narrow gap between two islands that would have been impossible to pass without an engine. Anyway we finally got there, and in the immortal words from The Beatles “with a little help from our friend”.
Before we started we had made a deal that we should use the Swedish SRS- handicap system, otherwise it would have been impossible for us to beat him.
SRS work in the following way: Our boat has a SRS of 1.07 and Bodos has 1.19. When the race is over you take time you have sailed and multiply it with the SRS number and you get the total time. Easy! Unfortunately for Bodo was to fast for us. After a five hour sailing we finished 20 minutes after him even after we had compensated for the SRS. Nice sailing Bodo! Or maybe we are we to slow? No I´m pretty sure Bodo won because he is fast, not because we are slow.
First prize in the race was a free dinner at Konoba Ribera down at the harbor in Jezera. They do have a killer tunasteak there. After about thirty minutes the food comes and the tuna is about 400g with a lot of sides as well. How is possible for anybody to eat all this food I ask myself? I can’t, thats for sure. After a wile the waiter appear at the table and ask if something is wrong with the food, for which I reply that I can´t that much food. He look at me for a long time and then shake his head, and seem to think I´m a wimp.
The evening ends with killer party at Free Spirit Sailing. The reason is that they have had business going for a year now and therefore invited a lot of friends, customers and of course the swedish sailors to celebrate. I can promise you that they can have a party down here. A big plastic thing sort of like a babypool is brought forward and it´s full of beer, vine, raki and lot of ice and then the party start. it was a party that I´m not sure how it ended. I went ot bed at about 1am, Kjelle hold on until 2:30am. At that time the party was in full swing. If the people down here celebrate this much after one year, how is it going to be at the ten year celebration? Will the building be standing? Anyway I had a really good time and met a lot of nice and fun people.
Here are some pictures from our race against Bodo. All pictures are taken by Bodo Genz. It is always nice to be in some pictures. Thanks Bodo!
